Get ready to cut loose! Footloose: The Musical is an electrifying, 80s-inspired stage adaptation about Ren McCormack, a Chicago teen who moves to the small town of Bomont, where dancing and rock music have been banned by a strict Reverend. Determined to shake things up, Ren challenges the repressive rule, helps the town heal from a past tragedy, and finds love with the Reverend’s daughter, Ariel. Packed with high-energy dance numbers and unforgettable hits, this show is full of heart, humor, and the power of standing up for what you believe in.

Please prepare:

A 45-second to 1-minute monologue
A 16–24 bar cut (30 seconds to 1 minute) of a song
Dress appropriately for a short dance audition (sneakers are perfectly fine!)

Character List:

REN MCCORMACK – teenage boy from Chicago (Range: D3-C5) Tenor. Energetic, emotional, rebellious, likeable; emotes his pain through quirky sarcasm and dance; strong dancer.

ETHEL MCCORMACK – his mother (Range: A3-D5) Soprano. Ren’s mother; had a tough go, just trying to make it…would do anything for her son.

REVEREND SHAW MOORE – the minister of Bomont (Range: A2-F#4) Baritone. The powerful, traditional local church leader; strict, stern, and solemn, still struggling with the death of his son.

VI MOORE – his wife (Range: A3-Db5) Soprano. Reverend Moore’s loving, supportive, resilient wife.

ARIEL MOORE – their teenage daughter (Range: G3-Eb5) Mezzo-Pop. Smart, a bit of the bad girl with an edge, sweet, the rebellious minister’s daughter; role requires strong belt, must be a strong singer/dancer.

RUSTY – Ariel’s best friend (Range: A3-F#5 (opt. F#6) Great soprano/pop voice. Ariel’s friend; a bit scatterbrained, sweet, fun, knows everything about everything; role requires strong belt, strong comedic timing and dance.

WILLARD HEWITT – Ren’s friend, a country boy (Range: Bb2-Ab4) Tenor. A simple country bumpkin with a warm heart and a big smile; comedic timing and dance a must.

CHUCK CRANSTON – Ariel’s boyfriend (Range: F#3-B4) Tenor. The local bad boy and Ariel’s boyfriend.

WENDY JO – Ariel’s friend (Range: A3-E5) Mezzo. Ariel’s friend; strong belt, comedic timing, and dance required.

URLEEN – Ariel’s friend (Range: A3-D5) Mezzo/Alto. Ariel’s friend; the smart one of the group; role requires strong belt, comedic timing, and dance.
